Kirtipur is an ancient municipality and city located in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. Situated approximately 5 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu, it is recognized as one of the five dense municipalities within the valley, alongside Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Madhyapur Thimi.
The city is primarily inhabited by the Newar people and serves as a significant religious destination. It is known for its natural environment and numerous temples, which attract many visitors to the area. In 2008, Kirtipur was officially listed as a UNESCO tentative site.
