Hetauda is a sub-metropolitan city located in the Makwanpur district of Bagmati Province in central Nepal. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Makwanpur District and was designated as the capital of Bagmati Province by a majority vote of the Provincial Assembly Members on January 12, 2020.
The city is recognized as one of the largest urban centers in Nepal. According to census data, Hetauda's population was 153,875 in 2015 and grew to 193,576 by 2021.
