Banepa is a municipality and historical town located in a valley in central Nepal. Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level, the town lies about 25 kilometers (16 miles) east of Kathmandu. According to the 2021 census, Banepa has a population of 67,690.
The area is characterized by several religious and geographical landmarks. The primary attraction is the temple of Chandeshwori, which is located roughly 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) northeast of the town along the Rudramati River. Other notable sites include the Dhaneshwor Temple, situated one kilometer south of the town center.
Banepa is also recognized for its cultural and religious features, specifically its eight different ponds and a collection of eight temples dedicated to deities including Ganesh, Narayanthan, and Bhimshenthan.
