Småland is a historical province located in southern Sweden. It borders the provinces of Blekinge, Scania, Halland, Västergötland, and Östergötland, as well as the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea. The name Småland translates literally to "small lands," a reference to the various small historic provinces that originally composed the region.
The province has a total area comparable in size to Belgium. Its highest geographical point is Tomtabacken, which reaches an elevation of 377 metres (1,237 ft). In other languages, the Latinized form Smolandia is sometimes used to refer to the region.
