Myra was an ancient city located in Lycia, situated in the region that is now part of modern-day Turkey. It was established on the river Myros within a fertile alluvial plain positioned between the Massikytos range and the Aegean Sea.
The city was likely founded by the Lycians before becoming Hellenized by the 3rd century BC. Following the wars of the diadochi, the area transitioned through various periods of governance under the loose control of the Ptolemies and Seleucids, eventually falling under Roman rule.
