Lillehammer is a municipality located in the Innlandet county of Norway. It is situated within the traditional district of Gudbrandsdal, with the town of Lillehammer serving as its administrative centre.
The town was originally established in 1827 as part of Fåberg parish before becoming a municipality that merged with the larger Fåberg Municipality in 1964. The surrounding rural area includes notable villages such as Fåberg, Hunderfossen, Jørstadmoen, and Rudsbygd, while Vingnes, Saksumdal, and Vingrom are located in the western and southern regions.
The municipality's mountainous terrain is characterized by several distinct areas, including Fåberg Vestfjell, Fåberg Østfjell, and Nordseter.
