Trondheim is a city and municipality located in Trøndelag county, Norway. Historically known by names including Kaupangen, Nidaros, and Trondhjem, it sits on the south shore of the Trondheim Fjord at the mouth of the Nidelva river.
As of January 1, 2026, the city had a population of 218,460. It ranks as the third most populous municipality in Norway and is the country's fourth largest urban area.
