Steinkjer is a municipality located in the Trøndelag county of Norway. It is situated within the Innherad region and is also known by the Southern Sami name Stïentje. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Steinkjer, which sits on the inner part of the Trondheimsfjord.
The town serves as the administrative center for Trøndelag county. In addition to the main town, the municipality contains several other populated areas, including the villages of Bartnes, Beitstad, Binde, Byafossen, Follafoss, Følling, Gaulstad, Henning, Hyllbrua, Kvam, Lerkehaug, Malm, Mære, Sela, Skei, Sparbu, Stod, Sunnan, Vassaunet, Vellamelen, and Verrastranda.
