Halden is a town and municipality located in Østfold county, Norway. Historically, the area was known by the name Fredrikshald between the years 1665 and 1928.
The municipality shares borders with several neighboring regions. It is bordered by Sarpsborg to the northwest, Rakkestad to the north, and Aremark to the east. To the southwest, south, and southeast, it borders the Swedish municipalities of Strömstad, Tanum, and Dals-Ed, respectively.
