Zoetermeer is a city located in the province of South Holland in the western region of the Netherlands. The municipality encompasses an area of 37.05 km2, with approximately 2.60 km2 consisting of water.
Originally a small village that served as a suburb of The Hague, Zoetermeer underwent significant growth starting in the late 1960s. Its population increased from 6,392 in 1950 to 126,998 by 2023, establishing it as the fourth largest population center in South Holland behind Rotterdam, The Hague, and Leiden. While it is now an independent city, it remains part of the Greater The Hague urban area.
