Vianen is a city located in the central Netherlands within the province of Utrecht, situated south of the Lek river. Historically, it was part of the province of South Holland until 2002. On January 1, 2019, the municipality of Vianen merged with the municipalities of Leerdam and Zederik to form the new municipality of Vijfheerenlanden.
The city features a historic town center dating back to the medieval period, which was originally enclosed by a moat and defensive wall. In addition to its historic core, Vianen contains extensive modern housing developments to the east, south, and southwest, as well as an industrial and commercial area. The city is served by two major motorways connecting to Utrecht: the A2, which runs between Amsterdam and Maastricht, and the A27, which connects Breda and Almere.
