Nieuwegein is a municipality and city located in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is situated to the south of the provincial capital, Utrecht, which borders it to the north. The city is geographically defined by several neighboring areas, including IJsselstein to the southwest, Houten to the east, and Vianen to the south.
The municipality is separated from Vianen by the river Lek. As of December 1, 2021, Nieuwegein had a population of 64,606 inhabitants.
