Amersfoort is a city and municipality located in the Utrecht province of the Netherlands. As of January 31, 2023, it had a population of 160,902, making it the second-largest municipality in the province and the fifteenth-largest in the country.
The city serves as one of the largest Dutch railway junctions, featuring three stations: Amersfoort Centraal, Schothorst, and Vathorst. This status is due to its position on two of the nation's primary railway lines running east to west and north to south. Historically, the city served as a venue for modern pentathlon events during the 1928 Summer Olympics and celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2009.
