Volendam is a tourist town located in the municipality of Edam-Volendam within the province of North Holland, Netherlands. As of January 1, 2021, the town had a population of 22,715 and maintains a twinning relationship with Coventry, England.
The town is primarily known for its streets, old fishing boats, and the traditional clothing worn by some of its residents. The women's costume from Volendam, which features a high, pointed bonnet, is one of the most recognizable traditional costumes in the Netherlands and frequently appears on tourist postcards and posters.
