Assendelft is a town located in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. It currently serves as a constituent part of the municipality of Zaanstad, which is situated within the Amsterdam Agglomeration (GA).
Historically, Assendelft functioned as an independent municipality until 1974. During the administrative restructuring that formed Zaanstad, residents of Assendelft expressed opposition to joining the new entity and instead proposed a merger with Krommenie to create a separate municipality named Krommenie-Assendelft.
