Geertruidenberg is a city and municipality located in the province of North Brabant in the southern region of the Netherlands. The settlement was named in honor of Saint Gertrude of Nivelles.
The city received its official city rights in 1213 from the count of Holland. Historically, Geertruidenberg functioned as a fortified city that experienced significant prosperity until the 15th century.
