Breda is a city and municipality located in the southern part of the Netherlands within the province of North Brabant. The name of the city is derived from "brede Aa," which refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa. Geographically, it sits at an equidistant point between the cities of Rotterdam and Antwerp.
As of September 13, 2022, Breda has a population of 185,072 inhabitants. It is the tenth largest city or municipality in the Netherlands and ranks as the third largest in North Brabant, following Eindhoven and Tilburg. The city is also a constituent part of the Brabantse Stedenrij.
