Roermond is a city, municipality, and diocese located in the Limburg province of the Netherlands. Situated on the east bank of the river Meuse, it is historically significant as an important town on the lower Roer.
The city received its official town rights in 1231. Today, the town centre is recognized as a designated conservation area to preserve its historical character.
