Delfzijl

Delfzijl is a city located in the province of Groningen in the northeast of the Netherlands. It serves as a significant maritime hub, currently holding the status of the fifth largest seaport in the country and the largest port in the Northeast region.

The settlement originated in the 16th century as a fortified site situated between the Delf and the Ems rivers. While it was once protected by fortifications, these structures were removed during the late 19th century. The city currently has a population of 25,651.
