Zutphen is a city and municipality located in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. It is situated on the eastern bank of the river IJssel at the confluence where it is joined by the Berkel, approximately 30 km northeast of Arnhem.
The name Zutphen was first mentioned in the 11th century and is believed to mean "south fen." In 2005, the municipality merged with Warnsveld while retaining its original name. As of 2021, the municipality had a population of 48,111 residents.
