Meppel is a city and municipality located in the northeastern Netherlands. It occupies the southwestern portion of the province of Drenthe and serves as its smallest municipality by land area, covering approximately 57 km2 (22 sq mi).
As of July 1, 2021, Meppel had a total population of 34,506. The majority of these residents, numbering over 30,000, live within the city limits.
