Somoto is a city and municipality situated in the hills of northern Nicaragua. It serves as the capital of the department of Madriz.
The city is located along the Pan-American Highway, positioned approximately 20 km southwest of Ocotal and 51 km northwest of Estelí. It sits about 16 km from the El Espino border crossing into Honduras.
