Onueke is a city located in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. It serves as the ancestral headquarters for the Ezza people, who constitute the most populous clans within the state. While members of the Ezza community reside across all three senatorial zones of Ebonyi State and beyond, they are primarily concentrated in the local government areas of Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha, Ishielu, and Ohaukwu.
The city holds significant cultural and religious importance for the Ezza people. Traditionally, individuals from all walks of life return to Onueke to offer sacrifices at the graves of their progenitors, Ezekuna and his wife, Anyigo Ezekuna. It also functions as a major religious hub; Sacred Heart Parish serves as the headquarters for Ezaa Catholics, while All Saints Parish is the headquarters for the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria's Ezza presbytery. Other denominations, including Foursquare Gospel Church Nigeria, are also present in the city.
