Abakaliki is the capital city of Ebonyi State, located in southeastern Nigeria. It is situated approximately 64 kilometres (40 miles) southeast of Enugu.
The city's population is primarily composed of members of the Igbo tribe. Historically, Abakaliki served as the headquarters of the Ogoja province prior to the establishment of the Southeastern State in 1967.
