Enugu

Enugu is a city located in Nigeria that serves as the capital of Enugu State. The state is situated within the South-East geopolitical zone and shares borders with Benue and Kogi states to the north, Ebonyi state to the east and southeast, Abia state to the south, and Anambra state to the west.

The city originally acquired township status in 1917 under the name Enugwu-Ngwo. It was later renamed Enugu in 1928 following rapid expansion into areas owned by other indigenous communities. The state itself takes its name from this capital and largest city.
