Ile-Ife

Ile-Ife, also known as Ifẹ̀, is an ancient Yoruba city located in present-day Osun State in south-western Nigeria. Founded between approximately 1000 BC and 500 BC, the city has a long history as a significant cultural and historical center in West Africa.

By 900 AD, Ifẹ̀ had established itself as an important emporium known for producing sophisticated art forms. It is situated roughly 218 kilometers northeast of Lagos. As of the 2006 population census, the city has a population exceeding 500,000 people, making it the most populous city in Osun State.
