Burutu

Burutu is a town and Local Government Area located in Delta State, Nigeria. It is situated on the coast of the Niger Delta, positioned on two sides of the Forcados River, which serves as a channel of the River Niger. The town is located approximately 30 kilometres upstream from the Bight of Benin.

Historically, Burutu served as a strategic link between river transport and the sea during the late 19th century when the Royal Niger Company established a base in the area. The local population is primarily composed of people of the Izon ethnicity. According to the 2006 census, the total population of Burutu was 207,977.
