Umuguma is a town located in Imo State, Nigeria. It serves as the headquarters for the Owerri West Local Government Area. The town evolved from the former Owerri Local Government Area during its reorganization in 1996.
As one of the 774 communities recognized in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Umuguma is classified as a local government administrative unit. It is identified as a descendant of Arugo.
