Nkwerre is a town and one of the Local Government Areas located in Imo State, situated in the South-East region of Nigeria. According to the 2006 population census, the area has a recorded population of 80,270 and covers a total land area of 38.447 km.
The region is characterized by thick vegetation, which is intended to serve as a defense against soil erosion. Despite these natural features, Nkwerre remains an area prone to erosion.
