Nnewi is a commercial and industrial city located in Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria. It serves as the second largest city in the state after Onitsha. The metropolitan area of Nnewi encompasses two local government areas, Nnewi North and Nnewi South, both centered around Nnewi town. Due to ongoing urbanization, the Ekwusigo local government area is also considered part of the Nnewi urban area.
The city is a significant hub for economics and commerce, historically recognized as one of the fastest-growing industrial cities east of the Niger River. It houses several major industries, including The Ibeto Group, the Chicason Group, and Cutix Cables. Notably, Nnewi is home to Nigeria's first indigenous car manufacturing plant and was the site where the 'NASENI M1', the country's first wholly made-in-Nigeria motorcycle, was manufactured.
