Atani is a city located on the eastern bank of the Niger River in Anambra State, Nigeria. It serves as the headquarters of the Ogbaru Local Government Area within the Northern Senatorial District of the state. The town is situated in Igboland and is populated by people of Ukwuani origin.
The community was originally settled by early fishermen and migrant settlers. Geographically and traditionally, Atani maintains political relations similar to other communities in the Igbo enclave, following a structure that extends from the family unit (Umunna) to the larger community unit (Obodo).
Atani is a significant agricultural hub for the region, serving as a basin for rice, fish, yam, and cassava. The town produces a substantial portion of the food sold in various markets across both Anambra and Delta States.
