Eket

Nigeria

Eket is a city located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It serves as one of the 31 local government areas within the state.

The name Eket, also referred to as Ekid, identifies both the city and the indigenous people inhabiting the two Local Government Areas of Eket and Esit Eket. These people are a stock of the Ibibio people from the southern part of Ibibioland. While the local population uses the endonym Ekid to refer to themselves and their language, the name is commonly spelled and pronounced as "Eket" by Europeans.

The city and its inhabitants have no geographical or cultural relationship with the location of Eket in Sweden.
