Abeokuta is the capital city of Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria. It is situated on both banks of the Ogun River, positioned near a group of rocky outcrops within a wooded savanna landscape. The city is located approximately 77 kilometres (48 mi) north of Lagos by railway and 130 kilometres (81 mi) away by water.
The population of Abeokuta was recorded at 449,088 in 2006. By 2022, the estimated population reached approximately 735,000 inhabitants, with the city limits expanding into the neighboring Odeda Local Government Area since the last official enumeration.
