Lagos Island

Lagos Island is the principal and central Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos, Nigeria. It serves as a significant administrative region within the Lagos Division and formerly functioned as the capital of Lagos State until 1957.

The LGA occupies an area of approximately 8.7 km2 and recorded a population of 209,437 during the preliminary 2006 Nigerian census. Geographically, the LGA covers only the western half of Lagos Island, while the eastern portion is designated as the Lagos Island East LCDA.
