Ikeja is the capital city of Lagos State, located in southwestern Nigeria. It is situated approximately 17 km northwest of Lagos city. According to the 2006 census, the city had a population of 313,196.
Historically, Ikeja served as a residential and commercial town featuring government reservation areas, pharmacies, and shopping malls prior to the establishment of military rule in the early 1980s. Today, it houses the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and the Ikeja City Mall, which is the largest shopping mall on the Lagos State mainland.
The city is also a hub for live music, hosting notable venues such as Femi Kuti's Africa Shrine and Lagbaja's Motherland. Additionally, Ikeja maintains its own radio station that broadcasts content in both English and Yoruba.
