Walvis Bay is a city located in the Erongo Region of Namibia. It serves as the country's largest coastal city and its second-largest city overall. The urban area covers a total land area of 29 square kilometres.
The city is situated on Walvis Bay, which features a unique geographical layout protected by the Pelican Point sand spit. This formation provides the only natural deep-water harbour along the Namibian coast, making it a significant haven for sea vessels. The surrounding waters are rich in plankton and marine life, notably attracting large numbers of southern right whales, which historically drew fishing vessels and whalers to the area.
