Mozambique

Maputo is the capital and largest city of Mozambique, situated near the southern end of the country. It is located within 120 kilometres of the borders with South Africa and Eswatini. The city covers a land area of 347.69 km2 and has a population of 1,088,449.

The Maputo metropolitan area includes the neighboring city of Matola, bringing the total regional population to 2,717,437. As a port city, its economy is primarily centered on commerce. The city was formerly known as Lourenço Marques and is recognized for its eclectic architecture and vibrant cultural scene.
