Tambunan is the capital of the Tambunan District located in the Interior Division of Sabah, Malaysia. Situated at an average altitude of 750 metres within the Crocker Range, the town serves as a valley settlement characterized by a mild tropical climate throughout the year.
The area is geographically positioned approximately 80 kilometres east of Kota Kinabalu, 48 kilometres south of Ranau, and 48 kilometres north of Keningau. The surrounding valley contains 70 villages and is notable for its extensive terraced paddy fields. Additionally, the region features dense bamboo forests, which are a legacy of a British colonial edict requiring that 20 new bamboo sprouts be planted for every one cut.
