Shah Alam is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Selangor. It is situated within the Petaling District, with a small portion extending into the neighboring Klang District.
The city became the state capital in 1978 following the incorporation of Kuala Lumpur into a Federal Territory in 1974. Notably, Shah Alam was established as Malaysia's first planned city after the country gained independence from Britain in 1957.
