Elmina is a town located on the south coast of Ghana in the Central Region. It serves as the capital of the Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem District and is situated on a bay along the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 12.2 km west of Cape Coast.
The town is notable for being the first European settlement in West Africa. As of 2013, Elmina had a population of 33,576 people, and the current Municipality chief is Solomon Ebo Appiah.
