Kuching is the capital and most populous city in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, located on the island of Borneo. It serves as the seat of government for both the state and the Kuching Division. The city is situated along the Sarawak River at the southwestern tip of the state.

The urban area covers a total land area of 431 km2 (166 sq mi). Its population is distributed across two administrative regions, with approximately 162,843 residents in Kuching North and 351,815 in Kuching South, resulting in a combined total population of roughly 514,658 people.
