Kluang, formerly known as Keluang, is a town located in the Kluang District of Johor, Malaysia. Established in 1915 by the British, it serves as the administrative capital of central Johor. The town is situated in the center of the state and is positioned within 90 minutes of all major urban areas in the region.
The economy of Kluang has transitioned from rubber production to palm oil over the last century. Today, the district is recognized as the "tile capital of Malaysia" due to a significant industrial sector featuring multinational investment and numerous tile manufacturers. Additionally, the area hosts some of Malaysia's largest organic farms, which have established Kluang as an ecotourism destination.
Kluang plays a vital role in the regional economy, particularly when combined with the nearby town of Batu Pahat to encompass central Johor. Together, these areas serve a market catchment of over 700,000 people. Notable organic farming sites in the region include Zenxin, UK Agro, and Kahang Organic Rice Farm.
