Savannah

Mauritius

Savannah is a city located in the island nation of Mauritius. It serves as a geographical location within the region, though it is distinct from the biological biome of the same name.

The term "savanna" also refers to a mixed woodland-grassland biome and ecosystem. This environment is characterized by trees that are spaced widely enough to prevent the formation of a closed canopy, allowing sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken layer of herbaceous vegetation, primarily grasses.

There are four distinct forms of savanna: savanna woodland, where trees and shrubs form a light canopy; tree savanna, featuring scattered trees and shrubs; shrub savanna, which consists of distributed shrubs; and grass savanna, where trees and shrubs are mostly nonexistent.
