Tal-Barrani is a primarily agricultural area located in Malta. It extends across several south-eastern communities, spanning the region between the town of Żejtun and the villages of Santa Luċija, Ħal Tarxien, and Ħal Għaxaq.
The name of the area is derived from a nearby chapel dedicated to Saint Lucy. Historical records indicate that in a 16th-century notarial document, the land near this estate was referred to as bitalbarrani, meaning "the stranger's" or "outsider's" land. This suggests the cultivated land may have belonged to a foreigner or someone from outside the local village community. Additionally, historical records show that part of the land contained an area known as Tal-Misilmin.
From at least the 17th century onwards, Tal-Barrani was recognized as an agricultural estate. It is formally documented in the 1654 property book of the Order of St. John, known as the Cabreo Magisteriale.
