Valletta, also known as Città Umilissima, is the capital city of Malta and one of its 68 council areas. Situated between the Grand Harbour to the east and Marsamxett Harbour to the west, it serves as a primary commercial center for shopping, dining, bars, and café life.
The city holds the distinction of being the southernmost capital in Europe. It is also recognized as the smallest capital city within the European Union, covering an area of just 0.61 square kilometres (0.24 sq mi). As of 2021, Valletta had a population of 5,157 residents.
