Mdina is a fortified city located in the Western Region of Malta. It served as the island's capital from antiquity through the medieval period. The city is also known by its Italian epithets, Città Vecchia and Città Notabile.
The urban layout of Mdina is defined by its ancient walls, beyond which the city has not expanded. As of July 2024, the city maintained a small population of 242 residents, consisting of 166 Maltese nationals and 76 foreign nationals.
