Schoelcher

Martinique

Schœlcher is a town and the fourth-largest commune located in the French overseas department of Martinique. It serves as a significant local municipality within the island's administrative structure.

The town was originally known as Case-Navire until 1889, when it was renamed to honor Victor Schœlcher. He was a prominent French abolitionist writer whose legacy is commemorated by the current name of the commune.
