Anatahan is a volcanic island located in the Northern Mariana Islands within the Pacific Ocean. Geographically, it is situated approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Farallon de Medinilla and 120 kilometers north of Saipan.
The island is characterized by high volcanic activity, possessing one of the most active volcanoes in the archipelago. While it was formerly inhabited, Anatahan is currently uninhabited due to the persistent danger posed by frequent eruptions. Notable recent volcanic activity occurred in 2003 and between 2007 and 2008.
