Taipa is an area located in Macau. It was formerly a distinct island from Coloane but is now connected to it via the reclaimed land known as Cotai. Geographically, Taipa occupies the northern half of this combined landmass.
The population of Taipa is primarily suburban. Administratively, the boundaries of the traditional civil parish Freguesia de Nossa Senhora do Carmo are mostly coterminous with the former Taipa Island, with the exception of a portion on the island of Hengqin (Montanha) which houses the University of Macau campus.
