Ongon refers to a type of spirit within the shamanistic belief system and mythology of Mongolia. In this spiritual framework, all shamans are believed to become shamanic souls, known as ongods, following their death.
The term also describes the physical representation of these spirits, which is crafted by a shaman. These idols play a central role in rituals intended to invoke spiritual protection and can be placed in various locations, including private homes or outdoor shelters. Such idols may be consecrated within three years of a shaman's passing. One notable example of such a spirit is Dayan Deerh.
